The Shinkansen (bullet train) connects directly from Osaka to Kyushu. The Kyushu Shinkansen opened in March 2011, making travel even more convenient. Full rail service is also available, with Osaka and the nearby cities of Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe served by the private railways Hankyu and Kintetsu in addition to Japan Rail.
